How many SC300 were made?

The Lexus SC300, a luxury sports coupe, has become a beloved classic among car enthusiasts. Known for its sleek design, reliable performance, and connection to Toyota's legendary engineering, the SC300 has a fascinating production history. In this article, we’ll explore how many SC300 units were produced and what makes this car so special.

Production Numbers of the Lexus SC300

The Lexus SC300 was introduced in 1991 as part of the first-generation Lexus SC lineup, which also included the SC400. The SC300 was produced until 2000, with its production spanning nearly a decade. During this time, approximately 39,000 units of the SC300 were manufactured for the U.S. market. This makes it a relatively rare vehicle compared to other Lexus models of the era.

Why the SC300 Stands Out

The SC300 is celebrated for several reasons, including its design, performance, and versatility. Here are some key highlights:

  • Design: The SC300 was designed by Toyota's Calty Design Research studio in California, resulting in a timeless and aerodynamic look that still turns heads today.

  • Engine: It featured the 2JZ-GE inline-six engine, which is the naturally aspirated version of the legendary 2JZ engine found in the Toyota Supra. This made the SC300 a favorite among tuners and performance enthusiasts.

  • Luxury Features: As a Lexus, the SC300 came equipped with premium materials, advanced technology for its time, and a smooth ride quality.

The Legacy of the SC300

Although production of the SC300 ended in 2000, its legacy lives on. The car has gained a cult following, particularly among fans of Japanese sports cars from the 1990s. Its combination of luxury, performance, and reliability ensures that it remains a sought-after vehicle in the used car market.

Whether you’re a collector, a tuner, or simply an admirer of classic cars, the Lexus SC300 holds a special place in automotive history. Its limited production numbers only add to its allure, making it a true gem for enthusiasts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many SC 300 were made?

For years, the more refined and luxurious SC, specifically the SC300 with the five-speed manual, was the cheap alternative to a naturally aspirated Supra. But with only around 4000 manual-equipped SC300s ever made, they're now easily the most expensive SC.

Which 2JZ is twin turbo?

2JZ-GTE
This new auto featured two engines: the naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE with a power output of 220 hp (164 kW) and 210 lb-ft (285 Nm) of torque, and the twin-turbocharged version 2JZ-GTE, which had 267 hp (206 kW) and 318 lb-ft (431 Nm) of torque.

How rare is a manual SC300?

With only 3,883 manual SC 300/400s ever built, there is still a large number of them that survived. The survival of these modern classics is due to the class of the buyers, which were the middle-aged and the upper-middle-class Japanese car enthusiasts.

What is the max HP of a 2JZ GTE?

The 2JZ-GTE's already proven itself worthy of belting out more than 2,000hp. You'll need more than a 64mm turbo to get anywhere close, though, but it's less complicated than you think. Start with something in the 72mm range, and plan on bulking up the bottom end with forged pistons and rods as well as billet main caps.
