How to turn off ACC and LKAS cruise control?

If you have a vehicle equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) features, you may need to turn them off in certain situations. This guide will walk you through the steps to disable these advanced cruise control systems.

Turning Off ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control)

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is an advanced cruise control system that automatically adjusts your vehicle's speed to maintain a safe following distance from the car in front of you. To turn off ACC:

  • Locate the ACC button or switch on your vehicle's dashboard or steering wheel controls.

  • Press the ACC button or switch to turn the system off.

  • Alternatively, you may be able to turn off ACC by pressing the regular cruise control button or switch.

Once ACC is disabled, your vehicle will revert to standard cruise control, where you'll need to manually adjust the speed.

Turning Off LKAS (Lane Keeping Assist System)

Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) is a feature that helps keep your vehicle centered within the lane by providing gentle steering inputs. To turn off LKAS:

  • Look for the LKAS button or switch on your vehicle's dashboard or steering wheel controls.

  • Press the LKAS button or switch to turn the system off.

  • Alternatively, you may be able to disable LKAS through your vehicle's infotainment system menu.

With LKAS turned off, your vehicle will no longer provide automatic lane-centering assistance, and you'll need to steer manually.

When to Turn Off ACC and LKAS

You may want to consider turning off ACC and LKAS in the following situations:

  • When driving in heavy traffic or stop-and-go conditions, as the systems may have difficulty maintaining a consistent speed and lane position.

  • When navigating winding or narrow roads, where the systems may have trouble keeping your vehicle centered in the lane.

  • When towing a trailer or hauling heavy cargo, as the added weight and momentum can affect the systems' performance.

  • If you encounter inclement weather, such as heavy rain, snow, or fog, which can interfere with the sensors and cameras used by these systems.

By disabling ACC and LKAS when appropriate, you can maintain better control of your vehicle and ensure a safer driving experience.
