Is Ford Bronco gas or electric?

The Ford Bronco is currently gasoline-powered, with no production electric version available as of today.

In this article, we examine the Bronco’s current powertrain options, what Ford has publicly stated about electrification, and what buyers can reasonably expect in the near term.

Current powertrains

The Bronco’s lineup relies on gasoline engines paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, built for off-road capability. The two primary engine choices are:

  • 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-4 turbocharged engine: roughly 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

  • 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine: roughly 310 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.

Both engines are typically paired with four-wheel drive and off-road technologies such as terrain management systems and selectable drive modes. In daily driving, these powertrains deliver strong performance, but there is currently no electric version in production for sale to consumers.

Electric Bronco status and future plans

The industry-wide pivot to electrification has Ford outlining a broader strategy, but an official production electric Bronco has not been released or priced yet. Here is what is publicly known:

  • There is no confirmed production electric Bronco as of today.

  • Ford has indicated that electrification will extend to its SUV lineup in the future, and a Bronco-based electric model has been discussed within the company’s broader electric-vehicle strategy, but no specific date has been provided for a sale-ready version.

For buyers seeking an electric Ford today, options include the Mustang Mach-E and the F-150 Lightning, while the Bronco remains gasoline-powered for the time being. Ford’s publicly stated plans suggest electrification is on the roadmap, but the exact timing for a Bronco EV remains undecided.

Summary

The Ford Bronco, in its current generation, is powered by gasoline engines (2.3L EcoBoost or 2.7L EcoBoost) with a 10-speed automatic transmission and advanced off-road features. There is no production electric Bronco announced or on sale as of today, though Ford has signaled a commitment to electrification across its lineup and has discussed a Bronco-based electric model in its broader strategy. Prospective buyers seeking an electric Ford should consider other EVs in Ford’s lineup until an official Bronco EV is confirmed.

Is the Ford Bronco electric or gas?

The Bronco New Energy looks like the Bronco Sport and comes as an EV with a 105-kWh battery pack or as a PHEV with a 44-kWh battery pack and a gas engine. Tap the link for more info.

Does Ford Bronco make electric?

Yes, Ford has released an electric Bronco, but it is currently only available in China. There is a pure electric version and a range-extended version, but they are not sold in the United States.

  • Electric Bronco New Energy: This model has two motors, producing a total of 445 horsepower, and is equipped with a 105.4 kWh battery that offers a range of 404 miles (650 km) on the CLTC cycle.
  • Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV): This version combines a 43.7 kWh battery with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that acts as a generator. The total combined range is 758 miles (1,220 km).

Why is no one buying Broncos?

And over the last couple of years there are certain models of the Broncos with dealer markups of $5,000 to $10,000. And some even reaching $20,000. Over MSRP. Which has now led to the Broncos.

Does Ford Bronco take gas?

The 2.3-liter and 2.7-liter EcoBoost engines can take either 87-octane regular or 91-octane (or higher) premium fuel.
