Is Ford discontinuing the F-150 Lightning?

Contrary to recent rumors, Ford has confirmed that it has no plans to discontinue the all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup truck. The company remains committed to the model and its ongoing production.

Addressing the Discontinuation Rumors

Earlier this week, reports surfaced suggesting that Ford was considering discontinuing the F-150 Lightning due to low sales and production challenges. However, Ford has swiftly refuted these claims, reassuring customers and the public that the Lightning will remain a key part of their electric vehicle lineup.

"The Ford F-150 Lightning is a critical part of our Ford+ plan to lead the electric vehicle revolution," said Jim Farley, Ford's CEO. "We have no plans to discontinue production of the Lightning. In fact, we're increasing production to meet strong customer demand."

Strong Demand and Ongoing Production

Despite initial production challenges, Ford has been working to ramp up F-150 Lightning production to meet the high demand for the electric pickup. The company recently announced plans to double Lightning production capacity at its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Michigan.

"We've seen incredible customer interest and demand for the F-150 Lightning," Farley added. "Our teams are working hard to build more Lightnings and get them into the hands of our customers as quickly as possible."

Ford has received over 200,000 reservations for the F-150 Lightning since its unveiling in 2021. The company is aiming to produce 150,000 Lightnings per year by 2023 to keep up with the strong demand.

Commitment to Electric Vehicles

The F-150 Lightning is a crucial part of Ford's broader electrification strategy. The company has committed to investing $50 billion in electric vehicles by 2026 and plans to have electric versions of its most popular models, including the Mustang, Explorer, and Transit van.

"Ford is all-in on electric vehicles," Farley said. "The F-150 Lightning is just the beginning of our electric transformation, and we're excited to continue delivering innovative, zero-emission vehicles to our customers."
