What is the Honda version of the Acura RSX?

The Honda Integra, also known as the Acura RSX in North America, is a compact sports car that was produced by Honda from 1985 to 2006. The Integra was Honda's entry-level luxury sports car, slotting below the larger and more powerful Acura NSX. While the Acura RSX was sold in North America, the Integra was the model name used in other markets around the world.

Origins and Design

The Honda Integra was first introduced in 1985 as a replacement for the Honda Quint Integra. It was designed to be a more premium and performance-oriented version of the Honda Civic, sharing many of the same mechanical components but with a sportier exterior and interior. The Integra was available as both a three-door hatchback and a four-door sedan, with the hatchback being the more popular and iconic body style.

Over its four generations, the Integra evolved in design, becoming more angular and aggressive in appearance. The third-generation model, produced from 1994 to 2001, is widely considered the most iconic and beloved version of the Integra. This model featured a sleek, aerodynamic body and a high-revving, naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that was a favorite among enthusiasts.

The Acura RSX

In 2002, the Integra was rebranded as the Acura RSX for the North American market. The RSX was essentially the same car as the Integra, but with some minor styling and equipment differences to better fit Acura's luxury brand image. The RSX was available in two trim levels: the base model and the more powerful Type-S.

The Acura RSX Type-S, in particular, was highly praised for its performance and handling characteristics. It was powered by a 2.0-liter, high-revving four-cylinder engine that produced 200 horsepower, paired with a slick-shifting six-speed manual transmission. The RSX Type-S was considered a spiritual successor to the beloved Integra Type-R, which was not sold in North America.

Legacy and Impact

The Honda Integra and Acura RSX have left a lasting impact on the automotive enthusiast community. They are widely regarded as some of the best-handling and most engaging compact sports cars ever produced, with a reputation for being fun to drive and easy to modify. The Integra and RSX have also become iconic in popular culture, appearing in numerous movies, TV shows, and video games.

While the Integra and RSX are no longer in production, their legacy lives on through the continued popularity of the Honda Civic Si and Acura ILX, which carry on the tradition of affordable, performance-oriented compact cars from Honda and Acura.
