What model will replace the Ford Edge?

Ford Motor Company has announced that it will be discontinuing the popular Ford Edge crossover SUV and replacing it with an all-new model. The new crossover, set to debut in 2024, will offer a fresh design, updated technology, and improved fuel efficiency to better compete in the highly competitive midsize crossover segment.

The Demise of the Ford Edge

The Ford Edge, which has been in production since 2006, is being phased out due to declining sales and a shift in consumer preferences towards smaller, more fuel-efficient crossover models. The Edge's boxy, truck-like styling and larger size have become less appealing to many buyers in recent years, leading Ford to rethink its midsize crossover strategy.

The All-New Ford Crossover

The replacement for the Ford Edge will be a completely redesigned crossover model that is expected to offer the following key features:

  • Sleeker, more aerodynamic exterior design with a lower, more car-like profile

  • Improved fuel efficiency through the use of lighter materials and more advanced powertrain options, including hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants

  • Enhanced technology features, such as a larger infotainment display, advanced driver assistance systems, and connectivity options

  • Increased cargo space and passenger room compared to the outgoing Edge model

  • Competitive pricing to attract a wider range of crossover buyers

The new Ford crossover is being developed to better align with current market trends and consumer preferences, offering a more modern and efficient alternative to the aging Edge model.

Timing and Availability

The all-new Ford crossover is expected to make its debut in late 2023 as a 2024 model year vehicle. It will be produced at Ford's Oakville Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada, and will be available for purchase at Ford dealerships across North America starting in early 2024.

With the discontinuation of the Ford Edge and the introduction of this new, more competitive crossover model, Ford is positioning itself to better meet the evolving needs and preferences of midsize crossover buyers in the years ahead.
