When did Lexus start using NuLuxe leather seats?

Lexus, the luxury vehicle division of Toyota, began using NuLuxe leather seats in its vehicles starting in 2009. NuLuxe is a synthetic leather material that Lexus developed as a more sustainable and animal-friendly alternative to traditional leather upholstery.

The Shift to NuLuxe Leather

Prior to 2009, Lexus vehicles were primarily outfitted with traditional leather seats. However, as consumer demand for more environmentally-conscious products grew, Lexus sought to develop a leather alternative that would meet their high standards for quality and luxury. The result was NuLuxe, a synthetic leather material that closely mimics the look and feel of real leather but is made without the use of animal hides.

The introduction of NuLuxe seats was part of Lexus' broader sustainability initiatives, which also included the use of recycled materials in their vehicle interiors and the development of hybrid electric models. By transitioning to NuLuxe, Lexus was able to offer customers a more ethical and environmentally-friendly luxury seating option without sacrificing the premium experience they expected from the brand.

Benefits of NuLuxe Leather

  • Environmentally-friendly: NuLuxe is a synthetic material that does not require the use of animal hides, making it a more sustainable alternative to traditional leather.

  • Durable and easy to maintain: NuLuxe is highly resistant to wear and tear, and can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth, making it a practical choice for busy families and frequent travelers.

  • Soft and comfortable: Lexus has engineered NuLuxe to closely mimic the soft, supple feel of genuine leather, providing a luxurious seating experience for Lexus owners.

  • Cost-effective: NuLuxe is generally less expensive to produce than traditional leather, allowing Lexus to offer a premium seating option at a more accessible price point.

Since its introduction in 2009, NuLuxe has become a standard feature on many Lexus models, helping the brand to meet the evolving expectations of eco-conscious luxury consumers.
