Did Toyota make a Tundra with a manual transmission?

No, Toyota has never offered a manual transmission option for the Tundra full-size pickup truck. The Tundra has been available exclusively with automatic transmissions since its introduction in 2000.

The Toyota Tundra and Transmission Options

The Toyota Tundra is a full-size pickup truck that has been in production since the 2000 model year. Over the years, the Tundra has been offered with a variety of engine and transmission options, but a manual transmission has never been one of them.

The Tundra has been available with the following transmission choices:

  • 4-speed automatic (early model years)

  • 5-speed automatic

  • 6-speed automatic

  • 10-speed automatic (most recent model years)

Toyota has focused on providing automatic transmissions that offer smooth shifting, improved fuel efficiency, and enhanced towing and hauling capabilities for Tundra buyers. The lack of a manual transmission option is likely due to the fact that the majority of full-size pickup truck buyers in the United States prefer automatic transmissions.

Why No Manual Transmission Option?

There are a few key reasons why Toyota has not offered a manual transmission option for the Tundra:

  • Customer Demand: The vast majority of full-size pickup truck buyers in the U.S. prefer automatic transmissions. Manual transmissions have become increasingly rare in this segment of the market.

  • Towing and Hauling Capabilities: Automatic transmissions are generally better suited for the heavy-duty towing and hauling tasks that full-size pickup trucks are often used for.

  • Fuel Efficiency: Modern automatic transmissions, especially those with more gears, can often achieve better fuel efficiency than manual transmissions.

Given these factors, Toyota has likely determined that the demand and benefits of offering a manual transmission option on the Tundra do not outweigh the costs and engineering resources required to develop and produce one.

Which Toyota model has a manual transmission?

Toyota offers manual transmissions in several models, including the Tacoma, GR Corolla, GR86, and GR Supra. The Tacoma is currently the only truck on the market to still offer a manual, while the GR models cater to performance enthusiasts.

  • Toyota Tacoma: The 2025 Tacoma has a 6-speed manual option on the SR, TRD Sport, and TRD Off-Road trims.
  • Toyota GR Corolla: This performance hatchback comes standard with a 6-speed intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT).
  • Toyota GR86: The GR86 is a rear-wheel-drive sports coupe that comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission.
  • Toyota GR Supra: Manual transmission is available on certain GR Supra trims.
  • Note on older models: Manual transmissions were also available on past models, such as the Corolla, 86, and Tundra, but are no longer offered on their current versions.

Is tundra manual or automatic?

Currently, the Toyota Tundra mainly offers versions with an Automatic Transmission in the global market, and no models with a Manual Transmission have been launched. It is equipped with a 10-Speed Automatic Transmission, which is quite common among pickup truck models.

Did Toyota make a manual transmission tundra?

Here's another obscure one: For seven model years, Toyota put a manual transmission in its Tundra half-ton pickup truck, and one recently came up for auction on Bring A Trailer. From the launch of the Tundra for the 2000 model year through 2004, the base model borrowed the first-generation Tacoma's 3.4-liter 5VZ-FE V6.

What truck can you still get a manual transmission on?

The only new truck you can still get with a manual transmission in 2025 is the Toyota Tacoma. It is available on select four-wheel drive, four-door models across several trims, including the SR, TRD Sport, and TRD Off-Road.

  • Model: 2025 Toyota Tacoma
  • Availability: Only on specific 4x4, double cab models
  • Trims: SR, TRD Sport, and TRD Off-Road
  • Transmission: A six-speed manual transmission
  • Technology: Features intelligent manual transmission (iMT2) with rev-matching and anti-stall technology
