Do Dodge Chargers have a turbo?

No, the standard Dodge Charger models do not come equipped with a turbocharger. However, some high-performance variants of the Charger, such as the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, do feature a supercharger rather than a turbocharger.

Dodge Charger Engine Options

The Dodge Charger is available with a range of engine options, including V6 and V8 configurations. The base engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that produces 292 horsepower. Higher trim levels offer more powerful V8 engines, such as a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with 370 horsepower or a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 with 485 horsepower.

The high-performance Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat model is equipped with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that generates an impressive 707 horsepower. This engine uses a supercharger, not a turbocharger, to boost its power output.

Why Turbochargers are Not Used in Standard Chargers

  • Turbochargers are more complex and expensive to manufacture and maintain compared to naturally aspirated engines.

  • Turbochargers can also introduce lag in throttle response, which may not be desirable for a large, rear-wheel-drive sedan like the Charger.

  • Dodge has opted for the more reliable and responsive supercharger setup in its high-performance Charger models instead of a turbocharger.

While turbochargers are not used in the standard Dodge Charger lineup, the supercharged Hellcat variant provides an exhilarating driving experience with its massive 707 horsepower output. The Charger's engine options cater to a range of performance preferences, from the efficient V6 to the powerful supercharged V8.
