No, Ford does not currently have a Formula 1 (F1) car or team. The last time Ford was involved in F1 racing was from 2000 to 2004 when they owned the Jaguar Racing team. Since then, Ford has not returned to the top echelon of open-wheel motorsports.

Ford's History in Formula 1

Ford has a long and storied history in motorsports, including participation in Formula 1 racing. The company first entered F1 in 1967 through a partnership with Cosworth, providing engines to various teams. This partnership was highly successful, with Ford-powered cars winning numerous races and championships over the following decades.

In 1999, Ford acquired the Stewart Grand Prix team and renamed it Jaguar Racing. The team competed in F1 from 2000 to 2004, but struggled to achieve consistent success. After five seasons, Ford decided to sell the team, which was eventually purchased by Red Bull and became the current Red Bull Racing team.

Since their exit from F1 in 2004, Ford has not returned to the sport as a constructor or engine supplier. The company has instead focused its motorsports efforts on other racing series, such as the World Rally Championship, NASCAR, and various sports car championships.

Reasons for Ford's Absence from F1

  • Cost of Participation: Competing in F1 is extremely expensive, with teams spending hundreds of millions of dollars annually to develop and race their cars. Ford may have determined that the costs outweighed the potential benefits of being involved in the sport.

  • Lack of Competitiveness: During their time in F1, the Jaguar Racing team struggled to be consistently competitive, which may have discouraged Ford from further investment in the sport.

  • Shifting Priorities: Ford has shifted its focus to other motorsports series and initiatives, such as its successful return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race in 2016.

While Ford's absence from F1 may disappoint some fans, the company remains a significant player in the world of motorsports, competing in various other racing series and supporting the development of new technologies and innovations.
