Does the nx 300 require premium gas?

The Lexus NX 300 is a luxury compact SUV that does not require premium gasoline. The manufacturer recommends using regular unleaded fuel with an octane rating of 87 or higher for optimal performance and fuel efficiency.

Fuel Requirements for the Lexus NX 300

According to the Lexus owner's manual and information from the manufacturer, the Lexus NX 300 is designed to run on regular unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Lexus does not recommend or require the use of premium fuel (91 octane or higher) for this model.

Using regular 87 octane fuel will not negatively impact the engine or performance of the NX 300. The vehicle's engine and fuel system are engineered to operate efficiently on regular grade gasoline. Lexus states that premium fuel is not necessary and will not provide any additional benefits in terms of power, acceleration, or fuel economy.

Reasons to Use Regular Fuel

There are a few key reasons why Lexus recommends regular unleaded gas for the NX 300:

  • Cost Savings: Regular gas is typically 20-40 cents per gallon less expensive than premium fuel. This can add up to significant savings over time, especially for frequent drivers.

  • No Performance Benefit: The NX 300's engine is not designed to take advantage of the higher octane rating in premium fuel. Using regular will not negatively impact power, acceleration, or fuel efficiency.

  • Manufacturer Recommendation: Lexus engineers have optimized the NX 300 to run on regular 87 octane gas. Using a higher grade fuel is unnecessary and will not improve the vehicle's performance.

Unless your owner's manual specifically states that premium fuel is required, it is generally recommended to use the lowest octane fuel grade that meets the manufacturer's specifications. This will save you money at the pump without sacrificing performance or fuel economy.
