Is Saab made by Chevy?

No, Saab is not made by Chevy. Saab is a Swedish automobile manufacturer that was previously owned by General Motors, but is no longer associated with Chevrolet or any other GM brands.

The History of Saab

Saab was founded in 1945 as an aircraft manufacturer in Sweden. The company later diversified into the automotive industry, producing its first production car, the Saab 92, in 1949. Saab became known for its innovative, quirky, and safety-focused vehicle designs, particularly its turbocharged engines and aerodynamic body styles.

In 2000, General Motors acquired a majority stake in Saab, and the company operated as a subsidiary of GM until 2010 when the automaker filed for bankruptcy. After a brief period of ownership by Dutch supercar maker Spyker, Saab went into liquidation in 2011.

Saab's Relationship with Chevrolet

While Saab was owned by GM, the company did share some components and platforms with other GM brands, including Chevrolet. For example, the Saab 9-3 and 9-5 models shared underpinnings with the Chevrolet Malibu and Impala, respectively. However, Saab was always a distinct brand with its own unique design and engineering.

Since Saab's bankruptcy and liquidation in 2011, the brand has been purchased by various investors, but it is no longer associated with Chevrolet or any other GM marques. The current owner of the Saab brand is National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), which plans to relaunch the brand as an electric vehicle manufacturer.

In summary, while Saab and Chevrolet had some shared components during Saab's time under GM ownership, Saab has never been a Chevrolet model or a subsidiary of the Chevrolet brand. Saab has always been a distinct Swedish automaker with its own unique identity and engineering.
