What Acura has VTEC?

Acura, the luxury division of Honda, is known for its advanced engine technology, including the Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) system. VTEC is a unique engine technology that allows Acura vehicles to deliver exceptional performance and fuel efficiency.

What is VTEC?

VTEC is an advanced valve train system developed by Honda that allows the engine to switch between different cam profiles, optimizing valve timing and lift for different driving conditions. This technology enables the engine to deliver high performance when needed, while also providing improved fuel efficiency during normal driving.

The VTEC system works by using two different cam profiles - one for low-to-mid engine speeds and another for high engine speeds. At lower speeds, the engine uses the low-lift cam profile, which prioritizes fuel efficiency. When the driver demands more power, the system switches to the high-lift cam profile, allowing the engine to produce more power and torque.

Acura Models with VTEC

Many Acura models have been equipped with VTEC technology over the years, including:

  • Acura Integra - The Integra was one of the first Acura models to feature VTEC, with the system debuting in the 1989 model year.

  • Acura TL - The TL sedan has been available with VTEC engines since its introduction in 1995.

  • Acura TSX - The TSX, introduced in 2004, has also been offered with VTEC-equipped engines.

  • Acura RDX - Acura's compact luxury SUV, the RDX, has featured VTEC technology since its debut in 2006.

  • Acura MDX - Acura's popular mid-size SUV, the MDX, has been available with VTEC engines since its introduction in 2001.
