What is Fords personal safety system?

Ford's Personal Safety System is a comprehensive suite of advanced safety technologies designed to enhance the protection of drivers and passengers in the event of a collision. This innovative system combines a range of sensors, algorithms, and actuators to detect and respond to various accident scenarios, providing a heightened level of safety and security for Ford vehicle occupants.

Key Components of Ford's Personal Safety System

Ford's Personal Safety System consists of several interconnected components that work together to monitor the vehicle's surroundings and the occupants' status, and to take appropriate actions to mitigate the impact of a collision. These components include:

  • Crash Sensors: These sensors are strategically placed throughout the vehicle to detect the onset of a collision and determine the severity of the impact. They can identify the type of collision, such as frontal, side, or rear-end, and trigger the appropriate safety responses.

  • Occupant Classification System: This system uses sensors to detect the presence, size, and position of the vehicle's occupants, allowing the safety system to tailor its response based on the specific needs of each individual.

  • Safety Belt Pretensioners: In the event of a collision, the safety belt pretensioners instantly tighten the seatbelts, helping to secure the occupants and reduce the risk of injury.

  • Dual-Stage Front Airbags: The dual-stage front airbags are designed to inflate with varying levels of force, depending on the severity of the collision and the size and position of the occupants.

  • Side Airbags: These airbags are positioned in the seats and doors to provide additional protection in the event of a side-impact collision.

  • Safety Canopy Side-Curtain Airbags: These airbags deploy from the roof to cover the side windows, offering protection for both front and rear-seat occupants in the event of a rollover or side-impact accident.

By integrating these advanced safety technologies, Ford's Personal Safety System aims to provide a comprehensive and responsive approach to protecting vehicle occupants in a wide range of accident scenarios.

How Ford's Personal Safety System Works

The Personal Safety System continuously monitors the vehicle's surroundings and the status of its occupants, using a network of sensors and algorithms to detect potential collision threats. When a collision is detected, the system instantly activates the appropriate safety features to help mitigate the impact and protect the occupants.

For example, in the event of a frontal collision, the crash sensors will detect the impact and trigger the dual-stage front airbags to inflate with the appropriate force, based on the severity of the collision and the size and position of the occupants. The safety belt pretensioners will also activate, tightening the seatbelts to secure the occupants and reduce the risk of injury.

In a side-impact collision, the side airbags and Safety Canopy side-curtain airbags will deploy to provide additional protection for the occupants, while the occupant classification system will adjust the airbag deployment based on the specific needs of the individuals in the vehicle.

Ford's Personal Safety System is designed to work seamlessly and intelligently, adapting its response to the unique circumstances of each accident scenario to provide the highest level of protection for the vehicle's occupants.

What is the Ford SOS post crash alert system?

The Ford SOS Post-Crash Alert System is a safety feature that automatically activates the horn and hazard lights following a serious impact that deploys an airbag or seatbelt pretensioner. It is designed to attract attention to a disabled vehicle, and its purpose is to alert other drivers and pedestrians that an accident has occurred. The system also automatically unlocks all doors to assist with egress and can be manually deactivated by pressing the hazard or panic button.

How it works

  • Activation: The system is triggered by a serious impact, such as when an airbag is deployed or a seatbelt pretensioner activates.
  • Alerts: It sounds the horn (intermittently, three times every four seconds) and flashes the hazard lights to draw attention to the vehicle.
  • Door Unlock: It automatically unlocks all doors to facilitate escape.
  • Deactivation: To turn it off, you can press the hazard flasher button on the dashboard or the panic button on the remote entry transmitter.
  • Power Loss: The system will continue to operate until the vehicle's battery runs out of power or it is manually deactivated.

What is a personal safety system?

Personal Safety System™
The system is able to analyze different occupant conditions and crash severity before activating the appropriate safety devices to help better protect a range of occupants in a variety of frontal crash situations.

What is the Ford personal safety system?

Personal Safety System
It assesses the size of the occupant in the passenger seat, determining what airbags to deploy during a collision. Sensors are also programmed specifically to distinguish between rounds being fired from a gun and the impact of a collision, to prevent inadvertent deployment during a firefight.
