The Acura TL's Retirement

The Acura TL had been in production since 1995 and had gone through several generations over the years. It was known for its powerful engines, luxurious interior, and sporty handling. However, by the early 2010s, the TL was starting to show its age and was facing increased competition from other mid-size luxury sedans.

In 2014, Acura decided to discontinue the TL and replace it with a new model that would better compete in the crowded mid-size luxury sedan segment. This new model would be called the Acura TLX.

The Acura TLX Arrives

The Acura TLX was introduced as a 2015 model and was designed to be a more refined and sophisticated version of the TL. It featured a sleeker, more aerodynamic design, a more luxurious interior, and a range of advanced technologies and safety features.

The TLX was available with a choice of two engines: a 2.4-liter four-cylinder or a 3.5-liter V6. Both engines were paired with a new nine-speed automatic transmission, which helped to improve fuel efficiency and performance.

In addition to its updated powertrain, the TLX also featured a number of other improvements over the TL, including:

  • A more spacious and comfortable interior

  • A more advanced infotainment system with a larger touchscreen display

  • A range of advanced safety features, including forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control

  • Improved handling and driving dynamics, thanks to a new suspension system and a more rigid chassis

Overall, the Acura TLX was designed to be a more modern and competitive entry in the mid-size luxury sedan segment, offering a blend of performance, luxury, and technology that would appeal to a wide range of buyers.
