What oil is best for an Acura RDX?

The best oil for an Acura RDX is 0W-20 synthetic motor oil. This lightweight, fully synthetic oil is recommended by Acura for its RDX model to ensure optimal engine performance and protection.

Understanding the Acura RDX's Oil Needs

The Acura RDX is a luxury crossover SUV that requires specific oil recommendations from the manufacturer. Acura engineers have designed the RDX's engine to perform best with a 0W-20 synthetic motor oil. This oil grade provides the right balance of low-temperature fluidity for easy cold starts and high-temperature viscosity for wear protection during normal driving conditions.

Using the recommended 0W-20 oil helps maintain the RDX's fuel efficiency, extends engine life, and ensures the vehicle's warranty remains valid. Deviating from Acura's oil specifications could lead to increased engine wear, reduced performance, and potentially even void the warranty.

Key Reasons to Use 0W-20 Synthetic Oil

  • Improved Cold-Weather Performance: The "0W" in the oil grade indicates it has a very low viscosity at cold temperatures, allowing for easy engine cranking and quick oil circulation during startup. This helps protect critical engine components from wear during the most demanding cold-start conditions.

  • Enhanced High-Temperature Protection: The "20" in the oil grade refers to the oil's viscosity at normal engine operating temperatures. A 0W-20 oil maintains its protective properties even as the engine heats up, preventing excessive oil thinning and ensuring proper lubrication.

  • Increased Fuel Efficiency: Synthetic 0W-20 oils have been engineered to reduce internal engine friction, which can improve the Acura RDX's fuel economy compared to heavier, conventional motor oils.

  • Extended Engine Life: The advanced additive package in synthetic 0W-20 oils helps minimize wear and deposits, promoting longer engine life and reliability.

By using the recommended 0W-20 synthetic motor oil, Acura RDX owners can enjoy the best combination of cold-weather performance, high-temperature protection, fuel efficiency, and engine longevity.

What brand of oil does Acura recommend?

Honda genuine oil
Check Your Owner's Manual
According to the Acura owner's manual, the most recommended oil for the vehicle is Honda genuine oil.

How long does synthetic oil last in Acura RDX?

Time for a change: Conventional motor oil typically needs to be changed once every six months or 5,000 miles, whichever comes first. Synthetic oil can last longer, however, and an oil change may only need to be performed once a year or every 10,000 miles. Sometimes, synthetic oil can last up to 15,000 miles.

Does Acura require full synthetic oil?

Acura recommends using Acura Genuine Motor Oil, sold and available at Acura dealers. If Acura Genuine Motor Oil is not used, conventional motor oil of a premium-grade or an ultimate full synthetic blend may be used and must contain the specified viscosity grade indicated in your Owner's Manual.

Which engine oil is best for an Acura RDX?

The RDX requires 0W20. This has been discussed on here before. All 0WXX oils are synthetic or synthetic blend. Certain dealers carry syn blend which I would guess would be expensive. If you want conventional oil you would have to switch to 5W20. I would stick with 0W20,I am very satisfied with it.
