What size bearings are on a Holden trailer?

Holden trailers, a popular choice for Australian road users, are known for their reliable and durable construction. A crucial component of these trailers is the bearings, which play a vital role in ensuring a smooth and safe ride. The size of the bearings used on Holden trailers can vary depending on the specific model and intended use, but there are some general guidelines that can help you understand the typical bearing sizes.

Standard Bearing Sizes for Holden Trailers

The most common bearing sizes found on Holden trailers are:

  • Wheel Bearings: The wheel bearings on Holden trailers are typically 25mm or 30mm in diameter. These bearings are responsible for supporting the weight of the trailer and its load, as well as allowing the wheels to rotate smoothly.

  • Jockey Wheel Bearings: The jockey wheel, which is used to support the trailer when it's not connected to a vehicle, often features 12mm or 15mm bearings.

It's important to note that the specific bearing sizes may vary depending on the trailer model, its intended use, and the manufacturer's specifications. Always refer to the trailer's documentation or consult with a Holden trailer specialist to ensure you're using the correct replacement bearings.

Importance of Proper Bearing Maintenance

Maintaining the bearings on your Holden trailer is crucial for ensuring its longevity and safe operation. Proper maintenance includes regularly inspecting the bearings for signs of wear, such as excessive play or noise, and replacing them as needed. Neglecting bearing maintenance can lead to premature failure, which can result in dangerous situations on the road.

By understanding the typical bearing sizes used on Holden trailers and prioritizing proper maintenance, you can help ensure your trailer continues to provide reliable and safe transportation for years to come.

What is the difference between Ford and Holden trailer bearings?

The main two differences between a Holden and Ford bearing is of course the sizing. A general rule of thumb is if the bearing fits over your thumb, it is a Ford bearing. Ford bearings can also be known as slimline. The Holden bearing is slightly smaller and won't quite fit onto your thumb.

What size are Holden trailer bearings?

Two types available: Holden type: bearing kit suits 39mm round & 40mm square trailer axle. Ford type (slim line): bearing set suits 45mm square trailer axle.

What is the difference between Holden and Ford stud pattern?

The thread diameter of the wheel studs is different between Holden and Ford, I find this the quickest and easiest way to tell them apart. The Holden hub runs 7/16 inch UNF nuts whilst the Ford hub runs 1/2 inch UNF nuts, and the size of the hex is different (bigger on FOrd pattern).

What stud pattern is Holden?

Stud pattern identification

TypeNo. of studsPCD (mm)
HT Holden5108
HQ Holden5120.6
Commodore5120
Ford Falcon5114.3

How do you match trailer bearings?

To identify the bearings used on your trailer axle, the simplest method is to remove the hub and check for stamped reference numbers on both the inner and outer bearings. If the bearing numbers are difficult to discern, an alternative approach is to measure both bearings for clarity.

Can you put Holden bearings in a Ford hub?

Ford or holden are the most common bearings. They don't change depending on the hub, only the axle. More precisely, the stud pattern on the hub might suit Ford or Holden stud pattern wheels. This does not necessarily have any correaltion with the bearings, which match the axle.

How do I tell what size bearings I need for my trailer?

The easiest way to determine which bearings are used on your trailer axle is to take the hub off and look for the reference numbers stamped into the metal of both inner and outer bearings. If the bearing numbers are unclear, the next best solution is to take measurements of both bearings.

How to tell Ford or Holden stud pattern?

And the HQ. Fairly easy way to identify. Them is to go grab hold of your stud measure from the center of one stud and the next one along if it's 63 mil. Its HT holding on a 5 star if it is 67.

How do I know what size main bearings I need?

Measuring the inside diameter of a main or rod bearing will require a dial bore gauge. The best ones are accurate down to 0.0001-inch and generally come as a set that offers a measurement range from 2 inches to 4 inches inside diameter (id). With these two tools you can quickly determine the clearances in any engine.

How do you find the bearing number by size?

The third and fourth digits tell you the bore size or (ID) of the bearing you have. In our example, it's (0) which tells us the bearing has a 12 mm bore size. Important Note that from 20mm and above you would need to times (x) the last 2 digits by 5 to ascertain the bore size for nearly all types of bearing.
