Which Prelude has VTEC?

The Honda Prelude is a sports car that was produced by Honda from 1978 to 2001. The Prelude models that featured VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) technology were the fourth and fifth generation Preludes, which were produced from 1991 to 2001.

Fourth Generation Prelude (1991-1996)

The fourth-generation Honda Prelude, produced from 1991 to 1996, was the first Prelude model to offer a VTEC engine option. The VTEC-equipped Prelude was powered by a 2.2-liter inline-four engine that produced 190 horsepower. This engine was a significant upgrade from the non-VTEC Prelude models, which had around 135-160 horsepower. The VTEC technology allowed the engine to deliver a broader power band and improved fuel efficiency.

Fifth Generation Prelude (1997-2001)

The fifth and final generation of the Honda Prelude, produced from 1997 to 2001, also featured a VTEC engine option. The top-of-the-line Prelude SH model was powered by a 2.2-liter VTEC engine that produced 200 horsepower. This engine provided even more power and performance compared to the previous generation's VTEC unit.

The VTEC technology in the Prelude allowed the engine to switch between a low-lift, low-duration cam profile for improved low-end torque and a high-lift, high-duration cam profile for increased high-rpm power. This provided the Prelude with a broad and responsive power delivery, making it a popular choice among enthusiasts.
