Are OEM floor mats worth it?

When it comes to protecting your car's interior, floor mats are an essential accessory. But with so many options available, you might wonder if investing in OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) floor mats is worth it. As the owner of Kevin's Autos, with years of experience in car maintenance and repair, I’ll break down the pros and cons of OEM floor mats to help you make an informed decision.

What Are OEM Floor Mats?

OEM floor mats are designed and manufactured by the same company that made your vehicle. These mats are specifically tailored to fit your car's make and model, ensuring a perfect fit and compatibility. They are often sold at dealerships or through authorized retailers.

Benefits of OEM Floor Mats

There are several reasons why OEM floor mats might be worth the investment:

  • Perfect Fit: OEM mats are custom-designed for your vehicle, ensuring they fit snugly without sliding around or leaving gaps.

  • High-Quality Materials: These mats are made from durable materials that can withstand wear and tear, providing long-lasting protection for your car's interior.

  • Enhanced Aesthetic: OEM mats often match the interior design of your car, maintaining a cohesive and polished look.

  • Easy Installation: Since they are designed for your specific vehicle, installation is straightforward and hassle-free.

  • Resale Value: Using OEM accessories can help maintain your car's resale value, as they are seen as a sign of proper maintenance and care.

Drawbacks of OEM Floor Mats

While OEM floor mats have many advantages, there are a few potential downsides to consider:

  • Higher Cost: OEM mats are typically more expensive than aftermarket options, which can be a deterrent for budget-conscious buyers.

  • Limited Customization: If you’re looking for unique designs or colors, OEM mats may not offer as many options as aftermarket brands.

  • Availability: Depending on your car's make and model, OEM mats might not always be readily available, especially for older vehicles.

Are They Worth It?

The decision to invest in OEM floor mats ultimately depends on your priorities. If you value a perfect fit, durability, and maintaining your car's original aesthetic, OEM mats are an excellent choice. However, if you’re on a tight budget or want more customization options, high-quality aftermarket mats might be a better fit for your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any floor mats as good as WeatherTech?

RC ones are great for their price range. Similar to weathertechs original line of floor mats. Note that both weathertech and husky have 2 different floor mats options. The newest versions are slightly thinner and more flexible. Meant to curl up less and retain their shape better. Newer versions cost more.

Are dealer floor mats worth it?

The problem is, usually these floor mats are way overpriced and are a lesser quality than you can get from an aftermarket mat. Floor mats are meant to give the dealership extra money, not to give you the best protection. Aftermarket mats are designed by companies that specialize in floor mats.

Do WeatherTech mats add value to your car?

Protects your vehicle's resale value. To sum it all up, WeatherTech floor liners protect your vehicle's resale value. All vehicles have a salvage value or resale value.

What does OEM floor mats mean?

Original Equipment Manufacturer
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer; in other words, it is the same product that was featured with your vehicle when it left the showroom. So, you know those original floor mats that came with your car? Those are considered your OEM car floor mats.

Does OEM mean authentic?

Does OEM Mean Fake? No, OEM does not mean fake. OEM refers to the original equipment manufacturer, which is a company that produces components or products for use in other companies' end products. These components are often of high quality and meet the specifications the purchasing company requires.

Why do WeatherTech mats curl up?

These curls allow particles to lodge between your floorboard and your mat. Curls are mainly caused by cold environments and sub-zero weather and are hard to rid of once they've fully formed.

Are expensive floor mats worth it?

While the cost of decent floor mats such as the ones we tested is an upfront investment, we don't recommend skimping on price. Rubberized mats protect your vehicle from carpet wear, tearing, and mold, which can be costly to repair.

Can I use armor all on my WeatherTech floor mats?

We do not recommend the use of Armor-All®, Son-of-a-Gun® or any other silicone-based surface treatment, as this will make the surface slippery. 1) REMOVE ALL OTHER FLOOR MATS FROM THE VEHICLE. 2) Select the correct WeatherTech® FloorLiner™ or All-Weather Floor Mat for the appropriate floor location of the vehicle.

Is it worth getting all weather floor mats?

Absolutely! You have no idea the amount of shame you will feel every time you get in with snowy/muddy shoes, specially when passengers do. Rubber mats are only $20 usually, and they'll hold the debris, the moisture, and will protect whatever's below them.
