Does the Civic Si have VTEC?

Yes, the Honda Civic Si does have VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) technology. VTEC is a key feature that helps the Civic Si deliver a thrilling driving experience.

What is VTEC?

VTEC is an advanced engine technology developed by Honda that allows the engine to switch between different valve timing and lift profiles. This enables the engine to optimize performance and efficiency across a wide range of operating conditions.

In a VTEC engine, the valvetrain has two different cam profiles - one for low-rpm operation and another for high-rpm operation. At lower engine speeds, the engine uses the low-lift, short-duration cam profile for improved fuel efficiency and emissions. As the engine speed increases, the system switches to the high-lift, long-duration cam profile, unlocking greater airflow and allowing the engine to produce more power.

VTEC in the Civic Si

The Honda Civic Si is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that features VTEC technology. Specifically, the Civic Si's engine uses a dual-stage VTEC system that switches between the low-lift and high-lift cam profiles at around 3,500 rpm.

This VTEC system, combined with the turbocharger, allows the Civic Si's engine to deliver a compelling blend of responsiveness, power, and efficiency. At lower engine speeds, the low-lift cam profile prioritizes fuel economy and emissions. But when the driver demands more power, the VTEC system switches to the high-lift profile, unleashing the engine's full performance potential.

The result is a Civic Si that feels lively and engaging to drive, with a distinct power delivery that builds as the revs climb. VTEC is a key part of what makes the Civic Si such a beloved sport compact car.

Are Civic Si turbocharged?

Under the hood of the Civic Si is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 200 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque. That power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a standard limited-slip differential; an automatic option isn't currently offered.
