How many 1991 Dodge Stealths were made?

There is no official public tally for the exact number of 1991 Dodge Stealths produced. Estimates place the annual output in the low thousands rather than a precise published figure.

Context and background

The Dodge Stealth was marketed in the United States as a sibling to Mitsubishi’s 3000GT, built during the early to mid-1990s. Production spanned roughly 1990 to 1996, with several variants offered over the years. Because Dodge and Mitsubishi did not routinely publish year-by-year, model-year production totals for the Stealth, exact figures for a given year such as 1991 have largely remained in the realm of enthusiasts and archival researchers rather than official records.

Why production numbers are hard to pin down

The following factors complicate how many cars were built in 1991.

  • Model-year labeling versus calendar-year production can differ, making strict year-by-year counts difficult to align.

  • Markets outside the United States often used different branding and trim lines, which can obscure a single “Stealth” total when aggregating global output.

  • Multiple trim levels and engine options (and their availability by year) complicate counting a single model-year total across all configurations.

  • Chrysler’s historical record-keeping and the way production data were subsequently archived have limited publicly accessible, itemized year-by-year figures.

In short, without access to internal corporate archives or comprehensive VIN-based registries, the exact 1991 count remains uncertain in the public record.

What sources say and how enthusiasts estimate

Automotive historians and enthusiast communities often rely on VIN scans, dealer build data, and registry compilations to approximate annual production. While these methods can yield educated estimates, they rarely produce a single, official figure.

  • VIN-based registries and enthusiast clubs compile data from owners and dealers to infer production ranges by year, but figures are typically rounded estimates rather than exact counts.

  • Public references, classic car registries, and auction catalogs may reference approximate yearly outputs, yet they seldom publish verified production tallies.

  • Archival materials, such as old brochures or factory literature, can provide context for available trims and options in a given year, without converting that into a definitive production total.

Given the lack of a published official number, readers should treat any single-year figure as an approximation supported by fragmentary records rather than a definitive count.

Summary

The short answer is that there is no officially published, precise count of how many 1991 Dodge Stealths were produced. Most credible reporting on annual output in 1991 places the figure in the low thousands, but exact numbers are not publicly available. The discrepancy arises from the way model-year data were recorded, market variations, and the absence of a centralized, released production tally. For those seeking a best-available estimate, consulting VIN registries, enthusiast clubs, and archived dealer literature can offer informed approximations, though they will not provide a single confirmed total.

Is a 1991 Dodge Stealth a good car?

It has been extraordinarily reliable. We have owned this car for 10 + years and have had to invest less than 300 dollars in it outside of normal maintence (oil, tires, etc). I would Highly recommend this car to someone looking for a SOUND car, with a beautiful exterior BODY, at a GREAT PRICE.

Is the Dodge Stealth rare?

The 1996 Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo is a very rare car, with only 57 units produced. This makes it one of the rarest Dodges, and possibly the rarest Dodge ever made!!
