What are the different grades of Lexus UX?

The Lexus UX is offered in three main powertrain grades—UX 200 (gasoline), UX 250h (hybrid), and UX 300e (electric)—with sportier F SPORT variants available on most trims. Availability varies by market.

Across regions, the lineup centers on petrol, hybrid and electric options, while trim names and features shift. This guide outlines the primary grades and how they differ, plus notes on regional availability and sport-focused variants.

Powertrain grades

Below are the core powertrain configurations you’re likely to encounter, with typical drivetrains and market notes.

  • UX 200 — Gasoline-powered variant featuring a 2.0-liter engine and front-wheel drive (with CVT transmission in most markets).

  • UX 250h — Hybrid variant that combines a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine with an electric motor; often offered with front-wheel drive and, in some markets, an all-wheel-drive option (Lexus e-FOUR).

  • UX 300e — Battery-electric variant available in select regions (notably parts of Europe and China); typically front-wheel drive with a dedicated EV powertrain and a mid-size battery pack.

The three powertrain grades form the core of the UX lineup. Not every market offers all three, and year-to-year changes occur with model refreshes.

Sport and trim options

In addition to the powertrains, Lexus offers sportier and higher-spec tiers that affect styling and equipment. The most common upgrade is the F SPORT package, which adds performance-inspired styling cues and wheel choices, with some mechanical tweaks where offered.

  • F SPORT: Available on various UX grades, adds sport styling, larger wheels, and interior accents; handling and suspension tuning can vary by market.

  • Luxury/Premium packages: Upgrade interiors with leather, heated seats, upgraded infotainment, and safety tech; availability depends on the market.

These options allow buyers to tailor the UX to performance-focused or comfort-focused preferences while staying within the same underlying powertrain grade.

Regional availability and notes

Availability of each grade depends on the country and model year. The UX 300e electric variant is widely available in Europe and China, but not broadly offered in the United States, where Lexus’ electric lineup centers on other models like the RZ 450e. Always verify local dealer listings for the exact grades offered in your area.

Summary

In short, the Lexus UX grades revolve around three powertrains—gasoline UX 200, hybrid UX 250h, and electric UX 300e—with optional F SPORT styling and a range of luxury packages. Regional availability varies, so your local dealer is the best source for the exact lineup.

What are the different trims of the Lexus UX?

The 2025 Lexus UX 300h is a small luxury SUV that is available in four trim levels: base, Premium, F Sport Design and F Sport Handling. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive optional, on all trim levels. Every UX 300h is powered by a hybrid powertrain based on a 2.0-liter four-cylinder.

What is the best year for the Lexus UX?

The best Lexus UX years are generally considered to be 2021 and later for features, and 2022 for being a well-rounded model before major updates. The first model year, 2019, is also a good option, offering the entry-level experience and solid fuel economy, but lacks later tech.
Why these years are recommended

  • 2022: A great used option because it's a sweet spot between newer models and the initial launch years. It features most of the tech from later years but is often at a lower price point. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert became standard on all trims starting in 2021, and the 2022 model year also saw minor interior and exterior color updates.
  • 2021: The addition of blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert as standard equipment across all trims makes this a strong choice.
  • 2019: While it's the first model year, it's still a solid recommendation. It was the first year of the hybrid-only model, and the initial release offered a good balance of fuel economy and luxury at an entry-level price point.

Other years to consider
  • 2023: Introduced a touchscreen system that replaced the older touchpad, and made the UX hybrid-only.
  • 2024: Saw the discontinuation of the petrol-only UX 250h and the introduction of the more powerful and efficient UX 300h hybrid powertrain.
  • 2025: Features a new generation hybrid system and Lexus' Safety System+ 3.0 as standard equipment across all trim levels.

Is Lexus discontinuing the UX?

Yes, Lexus is discontinuing the UX, with production of the fully electric UX 300e ending in November 2025. Reports indicate that the hybrid and gasoline versions are also being phased out, with production ending in 2026, and a new hybrid version is likely to be developed to take its place. This is part of a larger product lineup refresh as Lexus shifts towards more electrified models.
