What are the drive modes for the 2017 Acura MDX?

The 2017 Acura MDX offers three drive modes: Normal, Sport, and Snow.

These modes adjust throttle response, transmission behavior, and, on all-wheel-drive models, torque delivery to better match road conditions and driver intent. They are activated via the Drive Mode Selector located on the center console near the shifter.

Drive mode options

Below are the three drive modes commonly available on 2017 MDX models equipped with the Drive Mode Selector.

  • Normal — default driving mode, balanced power, comfort, and efficiency for everyday use.

  • Sport — sharpened throttle response and revised shift points for more responsive acceleration and a more engaged drive (may alter steering feel on some trims).

  • Snow — moderates throttle and torque distribution to improve traction on slippery surfaces and in snowy or icy conditions (particularly useful with AWD).

Selecting a mode changes engine mapping and transmission behavior, and, for AWD models, torque distribution to suit the chosen setting. Use Snow in adverse weather, Sport for a more dynamic drive, and Normal for routine driving.

How to use the Drive Mode Selector

On the 2017 MDX, the Drive Mode Selector is a rotary dial located on the center console near the gear lever. Turn the dial to select Normal, Sport, or Snow. The chosen mode is indicated on the instrument cluster or information display. Snow mode is recommended for slippery conditions, Sport for enhanced responsiveness, and Normal for everyday driving.

Summary

The 2017 Acura MDX provides three drive modes—Normal, Sport, and Snow—accessible via a Drive Mode Selector to tailor throttle response, gear shifts, and AWD behavior to different driving conditions and preferences.
