What is PHEV powertrain?

A PHEV, or Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, is a type of hybrid vehicle that combines an internal combustion engine with an electric motor and a rechargeable battery pack. This powertrain technology offers a unique blend of efficiency, flexibility, and environmental benefits compared to traditional gasoline-powered vehicles.

How Does a PHEV Powertrain Work?


When the battery pack is fully charged, a PHEV can operate in all-electric mode, using only the electric motor to propel the vehicle. This all-electric range, typically ranging from 20 to 50 miles, allows the vehicle to be driven without consuming any gasoline and producing zero direct emissions. Once the battery pack is depleted, the ICE automatically kicks in to provide power, effectively turning the PHEV into a traditional hybrid vehicle.
