What is the difference between Malibu LT and Premier?

The Malibu LT and Premier are two trim levels of the Chevrolet Malibu midsize sedan. While they share the same underlying vehicle, there are several key differences between the two that buyers should be aware of when choosing the right Malibu for their needs.

Exterior and Interior Features

The Malibu LT is the mid-level trim, slotting between the base L and the top-of-the-line Premier. The LT comes standard with features like 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, and heated side mirrors. Inside, the LT has cloth upholstery, a 6-way power-adjustable driver's seat, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

In contrast, the Malibu Premier is the most well-equipped trim. It adds 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights, and power-folding side mirrors. The interior of the Premier features leather-appointed seating, a 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support, and a larger 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Performance and Fuel Economy

Both the LT and Premier trims come standard with a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 160 horsepower. However, the Premier offers an optional 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that increases output to 250 horsepower.

In terms of fuel economy, the Malibu LT with the 1.5-liter engine is rated at 29 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. The Premier with the standard 1.5-liter engine achieves 27 mpg city/36 mpg highway, while the 2.0-liter engine option reduces efficiency to 22 mpg city/32 mpg highway.

Pricing and Value

The Malibu LT has a starting MSRP of around $25,000, making it the more affordable option. The Malibu Premier, with its additional features and optional engine, starts at approximately $33,000.

In summary, the Malibu LT is the mid-level trim that provides a good balance of features and value, while the Premier offers a more premium experience with additional exterior styling, interior refinements, and a more powerful engine option - at a higher price point.
