Who is Mercury owned by?

Mercury, the American automobile brand, is currently owned by Stellantis, a multinational automotive corporation formed in 2021 through the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and Groupe PSA.

History of Mercury

Mercury was originally established in 1938 as a luxury vehicle division of the Ford Motor Company. It was positioned between Ford's mainstream models and the high-end Lincoln brand, offering a range of mid-priced, upscale vehicles. Over the decades, Mercury produced a variety of sedans, coupes, and station wagons, including iconic models like the Cougar, Marquis, and Grand Marquis.

Ownership Changes

In 2010, Ford announced the discontinuation of the Mercury brand, citing declining sales and a need to focus on the Ford and Lincoln brands. The last Mercury model, the Grand Marquis, was produced in 2011, marking the end of the brand's 73-year history.

In 2021, the newly formed Stellantis conglomerate acquired the rights to the Mercury brand as part of its merger with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. However, Stellantis has not announced any plans to revive the Mercury brand or introduce new Mercury models.

Current Status

As of 2025, Mercury remains a dormant brand owned by Stellantis. The company has not indicated whether it plans to reintroduce Mercury in the future or if the brand will continue to be held in its portfolio without active production or sales.

The fate of the Mercury brand remains uncertain, with Stellantis focused on integrating and optimizing its existing portfolio of automotive brands, including Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati.
