What kind of engine does a Chevy Cruze have?

The Chevy Cruze is a compact car known for its fuel-efficient performance, and a key component of that is its engine. The Cruze is available with a variety of engine options, but the most common is a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine.

Turbocharged 1.4-Liter Four-Cylinder Engine

The standard engine in the Chevy Cruze is a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. This engine produces 153 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, providing a nice balance of power and efficiency. The turbocharger helps the small engine deliver strong acceleration while still achieving impressive fuel economy ratings.

Fuel Economy and Performance

With the 1.4-liter turbo engine, the Chevy Cruze is rated by the EPA to achieve up to 31 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. This makes the Cruze one of the more fuel-efficient compact cars on the market. In terms of performance, the turbocharged engine provides brisk acceleration, allowing the Cruze to go from 0 to 60 mph in around 8 seconds.

Other Engine Options

While the 1.4-liter turbo is the most common engine, the Chevy Cruze is also available with a few other powertrain choices:

  • 1.6-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine (137 hp, 240 lb-ft)

  • 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (250 hp, 260 lb-ft)

These alternative engines provide either improved fuel efficiency or increased performance, depending on the driver's priorities.

Is a 1.4 L turbo a good engine?

The 1.4 makes adequate power and pretty good fuel economy. If you aren't looking to go fast it's not a bad engine, you just have to keep it above 2k rpm at all times because that tiny turbo makes no power on the low end. I get 40 mpg all day and I have the 6 speed manual.
