Where are Ford Transits made?

Ford Transits, the popular commercial vans, are manufactured in several locations around the world. The majority of Ford Transits sold globally are produced at Ford's manufacturing facilities in Europe.

Ford Transit Production Locations

The main production sites for Ford Transits include:

  • Kocaeli, Turkey - This is the primary production location for Ford Transits sold in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The Kocaeli plant has been producing Transits since 1995.

  • Craiova, Romania - Ford opened a new manufacturing facility in Craiova in 2009 to produce the Transit Connect model, a smaller version of the Transit van.

  • Nanchang, China - Ford has a joint venture with Jiangling Motors Corporation in China to produce the Transit for the Chinese market. This plant began production in 2014.

  • Kansas City, Missouri, USA - Ford's Kansas City Assembly Plant produces the Transit for the North American market, including the United States and Canada. This facility started Transit production in 2014.

In addition to these major production sites, Ford also has smaller assembly operations in other regions to serve local markets. However, the facilities in Turkey, Romania, China, and the United States account for the vast majority of global Ford Transit production and distribution.

Reasons for Global Production

Ford's decision to manufacture the Transit in multiple locations around the world is driven by several key factors:

  • Proximity to Key Markets - Producing the Transit close to where it is sold helps Ford reduce transportation costs and respond more quickly to regional demand.

  • Access to Skilled Labor - The manufacturing facilities are located in areas with a strong automotive manufacturing workforce and infrastructure.

  • Compliance with Local Regulations - Building Transits in-region allows Ford to better meet country-specific safety, emissions, and other regulatory requirements.

  • Flexibility and Scalability - The global production network gives Ford the ability to adjust output and supply to match fluctuating demand in different markets.

By strategically locating Transit production around the world, Ford is able to efficiently manufacture and distribute this popular commercial van to customers globally.
