What does Safety Connect include?

Safety Connect includes 24/7 emergency assistance, automatic collision notification, a stolen vehicle locator, and roadside assistance.

Safety Connect is Toyota’s built-in telematics service that connects drivers to responders and support centers. It relies on the vehicle’s embedded hardware and cellular connectivity, is typically active with a trial period when you buy a new car, and requires a paid subscription to continue after the trial. Availability and exact features can vary by model year and market.

Core Safety Connect features

The following items represent the baseline capabilities most customers receive as part of Safety Connect.

  • 24/7 Emergency Call and SOS: Direct connection to trained operators who can dispatch help in an emergency.

  • Automatic Collision Notification (ACN): Automatic alerts to safety responders after a crash.

  • Stolen Vehicle Locator (SVL): Assistance in locating a stolen vehicle for authorities.

  • Roadside Assistance: Help with towing, jump-starts, tire changes, and other on-road needs.

These core features are designed to improve safety outcomes, provide rapid support after incidents, and assist with vehicle recovery when needed.

How it works and what you need

To use Safety Connect, you typically need a Toyota or Lexus vehicle equipped with Safety Connect hardware and an active subscription after the initial trial period. Access is provided through the vehicle’s interface or the Safety Connect app/call center.

  • In‑vehicle telematics hardware communicates with Toyota/Lexus safety centers and responders.

  • Activation usually occurs at the dealership, with a trial period included at purchase.

  • A paid Safety Connect subscription is required to maintain service after the trial ends.

  • Service access is via the vehicle’s infotainment system, the Safety Connect app, or a dedicated support line.

  • Cellular coverage is required for ongoing use; service may be limited in areas with poor connectivity.

In practice, customers typically start with a trial period and then decide on renewing based on their needs and regional terms.

Regional availability and limitations

Safety Connect availability, features, and pricing can differ by country, model year, and vehicle trim. Some features may be bundled with other telematics services or offered as part of separate ownership plans.

What Safety Connect does not replace

Safety Connect focuses on safety and emergency assistance. Remote vehicle features (such as remote unlock or remote start) are handled by related services in some markets, often under a separate Remote Connect or similar package. Always verify the current package details with your dealer or via the official app.

Summary

Safety Connect provides essential safety services designed to connect drivers with emergency responders, locate a stolen vehicle, and offer on‑the‑spot roadside assistance. The core features include emergency calls, automatic crash notifications, stolen-vehicle locator, and roadside help, delivered through built‑in hardware and cellular connectivity. After the initial trial period, continued use requires a paid subscription, with availability and pricing varying by market and model.

What does Toyota Safety Connect include?

Toyota Safety Connect is a subscription-based service that includes an Emergency Assistance Button, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, and a Stolen Vehicle Locator. These features connect you to a 24/7 response center to help with emergencies, provide roadside help, notify authorities after a collision, and assist in recovering a stolen vehicle.
Emergency and Roadside Assistance

  • Emergency Assistance Button: Pushing the SOS button connects you to a 24/7 response center that can dispatch emergency services like fire, police, or ambulance to your location.
  • Enhanced Roadside Assistance: The SOS button also provides access to 24-hour roadside assistance for issues such as a flat tire, dead battery, or running out of gas.

Automatic emergency notification
  • Automatic Collision Notification: If your vehicle's airbags are deployed or you're in a severe rear-end collision, the system will automatically notify the response center, which will then attempt to contact you and dispatch emergency services.

Stolen vehicle assistance
  • Stolen Vehicle Locator: In the event of a theft, the response center can use GPS technology to help authorities locate and recover your vehicle.

Important notes
  • Safety Connect is a different service from Toyota Safety Sense, which is a suite of active driver-assist features.
  • The service requires a cellular connection and GPS signal to function properly.
  • A police report must be filed to use the Stolen Vehicle Locator feature.

Do I have to pay for Toyota Safety Connect?

No, Toyota Safety Connect is not free permanently, but most new Toyotas come with a complimentary trial. For new vehicles with the new generation audio system, this is often a 10-year trial for the Safety Connect and Service Connect features, which requires a paid subscription after the trial ends. Some older models or specific models may have a shorter trial, such as one year.

  • Free trial: New Toyota owners typically receive a free trial of Safety Connect when they purchase a new vehicle.
    • For many 2023 and newer models, this trial lasts up to 10 years and is dependent on the 4G network.
    • For some older models or specific vehicle lines, the trial may be a shorter period, like one year.
  • Paid subscription: After the trial period expires, a subscription is required to continue using the service.
    • You can manage your subscription and cancel it at any time through the Toyota app.
    • You will need to purchase a renewal subscription to maintain service once the trial is over.
